Soda is addicting, we all know that. We also know that it’s full of sugar, caffeine, and other chemicals you probably don’t want in your body. In fact, a study done by Yale University found “clear associations of soft drink intake with increased energy intake and body weight” and “an increased risk of several medical problems “.

As wrestlers, we shouldn’t even think about soda during season (and off season). However, for some that is harder said than done. Here are some tips to ease your way off the soda.

Flavored Water

Water is the answer. No calories and it’s great for your body. On the flip side, it doesn’t really have a taste and when compared to soda, well it doesn’t really compare.

To help your transition to water, “water enhancers” are a great. No messy clumps like traditional flavored powders and they are convenient. Most of the different drops contain no calories, however on the downside are loaded with chemicals. So it should be noted this doesn’t make water healthier, it makes the transition to water easier.

Green Tea

Green tea is calorie free and has great health benefits, such as lowering your cholesterol and helping to prevent heart disease. Unlike flavored water, green tea doesn’t have any artificial flavoring in it.

Milk

People that drink more milk build muscle faster and milk can help lose weight when compared to people who don’t drink it. Milk also lowers the likely hood of having a heart attack and stroke.
